Ask five Cape Winelands venues what a wedding costs and you will get five answers, three of which are "it depends" and one of which is a PDF. So here is the honest version, from the venues that publish a number on their own site.
In August 2026 we read the published venue hire at every Winelands estate we could find one for. The range runs from R10 000 to R683 400. That is not a spread within a market. That is the market refusing to have a price.
Every figure below was read on the venue's own domain, in their HTML or in a brochure linked from their own page, on 14 August 2026. No directories, no aggregators, no estimates. Where a brochure has expired or contradicts itself, we say so instead of quoting it.
The affordable end, which almost nobody finds
The received wisdom is that a Winelands wedding starts around R80 000 of venue hire. It does not.
Vredenheim in Stellenbosch publishes a Feestafel option at R10 000 for up to 70 guests, and R15 000 above that. Their menu is quoted separately at R585 per person.
Leeuwrivier in Wellington lists its Manor Garden for a daytime wedding of 40 to 50 guests at R14 000 on a Friday and R17 000 on a Saturday, VAT included. Their indoor Function Hall is R34 500 up to 90 guests. Their price list is worth a second look: the button marked 2026 serves the 2025 file.
Cultivar, also Stellenbosch, publishes from R25 000 in winter and from R30 000 in summer for up to 90 guests, including the ceremony, a coordinator, furniture, crockery and a complimentary wedding night. Catering and bar are separate, with a barman at R3 250 and a DJ at R5 000. Their brochure is dated January 2024, so treat it as a starting point rather than a quote.
Au d'Hex in Wellington starts at R40 000 for a winter weekday on its 2025/26 rates, VAT included, and runs a daytime function from R28 000. For 2026/27 it already publishes R55 000 to R75 000. It is venue hire only: they have no kitchen of their own and an external caterer is compulsory.
None of these numbers is hidden. All of them are three clicks and a PDF away from a homepage, which is exactly why nobody sees them.
The middle, where most weddings actually land
Cavalli in Stellenbosch is R38 000 on a low season weekday and R82 000 on a high season weekend, excluding VAT. Low season is 1 May to 30 September. The Conservatory is a separate R17 000.
Belair Pavilion in Paarl is one of the few that publishes three years ahead: R74 000 for 2026, R79 000 for 2027 and R84 000 for 2028, VAT included. Winter and midweek dates drop to R58 000 and an elopement is R55 000. They state plainly that they do not quote per head, and put catering at roughly R600 per person.
Lanzerac in Stellenbosch prices by space: a ceremony at R9 000, an intimate wedding of 15 to 30 guests at R28 000, the Cellar Hall for 150 at R60 000 and a marquee for 250 at R105 000. Food and drink are excluded, and the larger options require you to book all 54 rooms. Their brochure ran to July 2026, so it has now expired.
La Petite Ferme in Franschhoek is R40 000 in winter and R130 000 in summer, with a menu at R950 per person and a maximum of 45 guests.
Nantes Estate in Paarl publishes a package rather than hire: R63 000 in winter, R74 000 midweek and R105 000 in summer, including two nights of accommodation for eight guests. Catering runs through their preferred list and is not included.
The top, where the number stops meaning what you think
Boschendal in Franschhoek publishes venue hire by space and season: the Rhone for 80 guests at R100 000 to R130 000, the Olive Press for 200 at R195 000 to R280 500, and The Retreat for 72 at R350 000 to R630 000. That is hire alone. Catering runs through an approved list with a minimum menu spend of R950 per person, and an extra build day is R30 000.
La Paris Estate is R165 000 in winter and R253 000 or R286 000 in high season depending on the package, VAT included. It excludes catering, drink, staff and coordination, and coordination is a further R40 000.
Maison Estate in Franschhoek runs R371 000 in low season to R610 000 over the festive period, as a multi-day booking of three to four nights. Food, drink and the compulsory coordinator are extra.
Babylonstoren publishes R449 800 to R683 400 for 2026 depending on the space and the season, VAT included, covering two nights of accommodation, flowers from their own garden, furniture, linen, crockery and sound. Food and drink are excluded, and a 15% service charge sits on top.
Your date moves the price more than your venue does
This is the finding couples act on fastest.
La Petite Ferme is R40 000 in winter and R130 000 in summer. Same estate, same view, three and a quarter times the hire. Cavalli more than doubles, from R38 000 to R82 000. Au d'Hex runs from R40 000 on a winter weekday to R70 000 on a summer weekend on its 2025/26 rates. Belair drops from R74 000 to R58 000 for a winter or midweek date.
If your budget is tight, moving your date does more than changing your venue.
What "venue hire" quietly leaves out
The number on the brochure is rarely the number you pay.
- A minimum spend on top. Boschendal's hire excludes catering and then sets a floor of R950 per person on the menu.
- Rooms you did not plan to book. Lanzerac's larger spaces require all 54 rooms. Vrede en Lust's R24 000 is The Residence only, capped at 40 guests, with three nights compulsory and no tables, chairs or crockery included.
- A service charge after the total. Babylonstoren adds 15% on top of a VAT-inclusive figure.
- VAT, or silence about it. Belair, Au d'Hex, Leeuwrivier, La Paris and Babylonstoren state that their figure includes 15%. Cavalli states that it excludes it. Most say nothing at all, which on a R100 000 hire is a R15 000 question.
One venue we are not quoting: Laurent at Lourensford currently has two different 2027 price lists on its own website, published a month apart, that do not agree. We have asked which one applies. Until they answer, we would rather print nothing than print the wrong half.
The ones that will not say
Alluvia, Grande Provence, Holden Manz, Leeu Estates, La Residence, Le Manoir de Brendel, Molenvliet and Le Franschhoek publish no wedding price at all, or answer "on request". Le Franschhoek's most recent public list is from 2018.
And one finding that surprised us: across every Winelands estate we checked, not one publishes a per-person wedding price. The per-head figure that every planning article treats as the standard unit is not something the venues themselves are willing to put in writing.
Five questions that make a quote comparable
- Is this figure inclusive of VAT, and is there a service charge on top of it?
- Does it include catering, and is there a minimum spend per person?
- Is accommodation optional, or is a number of rooms or nights compulsory?
- Which season and which day does this rate assume, and what does the other band cost?
- What is the deposit, and when is the balance due?
Any venue that can answer those five in one email is a venue you can budget against. That, more than the number itself, is what separates them.
How we checked
Prices verified 14 August 2026, read on each venue's own domain in HTML or in a brochure linked from their own page. We do not publish a figure we cannot point at, and we date every one, because a wedding price from an undated source is a rumour.
